Benefits of Cultural Exchange
Cultural exchange is a great opportunity to witness first hand how others around the world live, understand the challenges that face the global community, and learn about how we can all work together to effect positive change. Cultural immersion focuses on allowing you to travel with a purpose and view a culture from the inside and not merely as a tourist passing by. Make lifelong friends, leave a lasting impact and gain a sense of accomplishment as you challenge yourself to communicate cross culturally, collaborate on projects, and think outside the box.
Learn Through Experience
Live like a local! During the program, you will stay with a local host family who can give you an insider’s perspective on Ghanaian culture and show you the ropes outside of work. Our program staff will keep you informed about activities in your area and help you plan excursions. But best of all, you’ll have the chance to explore independently and create your own social life with your new coworkers, family, and friends.
Make Life Long Friends
People often find lifelong friendships with other participants and Ghanaians. Volunteering in a foreign country is an intense and rewarding experience that tends to create incredible bonds among people.
Learn a Foreign Language
Though there is no foreign language requirement for our programs, there are a variety of options available for students who wish to learn a local language while in Ghana. Your host family and community members will appreciate your enthusiasm and efforts to communicate in a local language.
Solidify Your Future Goals
Test the waters in a career field through practical experience, and gain invaluable international experience which will set you apart in college and job applications. Admission officers at top colleges and universities value students who have traveled abroad as it evidences initiative, a desire to engage globally, and the ability to thrive in new challenging environments.
Fun and Adventure
Traveling, seeing new sights, meeting new people, and working with others towards a common goal is fun and rewarding. There are plenty of opportunities to attend festivals, learn a craft, travel, relax at the beach, watch a soccer match with new friends, or catch the rhythm of traditional kplango drumming at a local spot.
Ghana is filled with unique experiences which can be easy to miss if you are just passing through and don’t have someone to guide you. The food, markets, festivals, music, nightlife, and sporting events of Ghana await your arrival!
