Program Policy

  • Conditions for Participation
    Abroad-Link GH reserves the right to reject applicants that are deemed unqualified. The minimum age for participation in most Abroad Impact programs is 18 years old when unaccompanied by an adult, unless otherwise specified. Students who will be under the age of 18 at the program start date must submit a standard parent or guardian release form prior to departure. Participants must in good physical and emotional health, and able to handle the physical rigors of traveling and participating in community service projects. Traveling to a foreign country, adapting to a new culture, and adjusting to unfamiliar surroundings can be an adventurous and challenging experience, which requires a high degree of maturity, flexibility, and teamwork. All participants are expected to adhere to Abroad-Link GH rules, the rules of the host country, and act respectfully and responsibly towards other participants and members of the community. Failure to adhere to the rules of the program is grounds for dismissal from the program. Participants who are dismissed or who withdraw will be sent home at their own expense, without refund of any fees paid, even in the instance of a medical problem.


  • Program Fees.
    Program Fees differ by program type and length. Fees do not cover international flights to and from the host country, costs associated with obtaining required visas and immunizations, or spending money. Shared occupancy for rooming is the standard. Once accepted into the program, participants must pay a deposit fee of US$400.00 to secure a spot in the program. The deposit is not refundable under any circumstance. The balance of the fee is due no later than 45 days before the start date of your program. Abroad-Link GH will not continue to reserve a spot for any participant whose balance is unpaid after this time. Applications received within 45 days of the program start date must be paid in full.


  • Cancellation/Refund.
    If you decide to cancel your program, Abroad-Link GH must receive a letter or email from you clearly requesting a cancellation and refund. When you cancel, Abroad-Link GH retains US$275.00 as a cancellation fee. There are no refunds for cancellations 30 days or less before the start date of the program under any circumstance. The amount of the program fee refunded will depend on the date you cancel in relation to the program start date as follows:

  • Safety.
    Safety is a top priority for Abroad-Link GH and we use care in selecting leaders, host families, and transportation companies. We also take adequate steps to manage risks to participants and their property. Our local in-country staff, and home office monitor news reports to stay informed of any safety concerns. Participants who act negligently or put others in danger may be subject to immediate termination from the program, without recourse or refund.


  • Assumption of Risk.
    Parents and students have read and understand the description of the program and understand that there are inherent risks associated with participation in this program. Participants understand there are health and travel risks, including risks associated with tropical diseases, motor vehicles, and poor road conditions. Parents and students accept these risks and agree to release, wave, covenant not to sue, indemnify, or hold harmless Abroad-Link GH and their agents. This includes any and all liability and responsibility of any nature for any loss or damage of property or personal injury, including death or illness, incurred by the participant while participating in the program.


  • Drugs/Alcohol/Weapons.
    Possession of weapons is strictly prohibited for participants in Abroad-Link GH Programs. Alcohol may be consumed, within reasonable limits, by participants who are of legal age (18) in the host country. Participants who choose to consume alcohol do so with the knowledge that they remain responsible for their actions at all times and are expected to drink responsibly. Abroad-Link GH prohibits the illegal distribution of alcohol to participants who are not of legal drinking age. Furthermore, excessive and irresponsible drinking leading to intoxication and behavior that interferes with the program or the rights of others is subject to immediate disciplinary action, and may result in dismissal from the program. Participants are prohibited from selling, using, or possessing any drugs that are considered by host country law to be illicit or illegal. Participants are cautioned that the possession of drugs is often dealt with harshly by host country law enforcement. Violation of any of these rules may result in immediate termination, without reimbursement.


  • Insurance.
    In order to qualify for travel insurance provided by Abroad-Link GH, participants must honestly and accurately disclose all medical information requested for coverage. Abroad-Link GH reserves the right to reject applicants requiring specialized medical care.


  • Use of Photos and Comments.
    Participants give permission for Abroad-Link GH to use photos that we take, or are taken on our behalf, during the course of the program, or any comments participants make in connection with the program, for promotional purposes.


  • Flights.
    All participants are responsible for the cost of flights to and from the Ghana. Abroad-Link GH can provide assistance for obtaining flights and assist in coordinating participants who wish to travel together. All participants must arrive in the country by the program start date.


  • Visas and Immunizations.
  • Participants must hold a valid passport and must obtain a visa prior to entering Ghana. Yellow fever vaccination is required for all visitors traveling to Ghana. Abroad-Link GH will provide assistance and guidance in obtaining the visa. Participants are encouraged to obtain visas and consult a travel doctor at least one month prior to travel.


  • Academic Credit.
    Participants may be eligible for academic credit through their college or university. Students should contact the registrar or study abroad office at their school to determine the eligibility requirements for academic credit. Abroad-Link GH will cooperate with your school or university to provide all necessary paperwork.
